Help! Am a beginner in the 3d arena and have bought myself a 64bit 3000 AMD PC with 1 gig o' ram and an asustek k8n e deluxe mutherboard. Wanted to get a graphics card that wrks well with 3d max and the like but
only have up to £100 ($180) to spend! I know it's cheap but it's all I've got and surely whatever I get will be better than the 32 MB PCI card I have at the moment!

I wanted to know how pixel pipelines and ram dacs can help with 3d max,
and how much memory ie 128 or 256MB you need for such applications.

Hey, if anyone can help I would be really grateful!

Thanks,

Well, I would suggest an nVidia Quadro card but not sure you can get one for that price. Maybe look at an nVidia GF FX5500. Here is a link to one in the U.S. for $99 http://www.directron.com/fx5500td256.html. Or maybe a GF FX5700. Both will run Max, I have played with the Max 6 demo on my FX 5200 and it worked fine. No speed demon on rendering but not bad for what it cost. Good luck Smile

Thanks mate. It can get addictive buying this gear and I can see myself spending £1000 and then not being abe to eat for a year. As long as it copes okay and doesn't freeze up like my old ATI all in wonder 32mb with Pentium 3 I'll be okay! Will give a go.
