I am looking for an automatic door opener manufacturer
here in the U.S. for the old fashion swing out barn doors
(horizontal swing).
There are several makers in europe but they don't import
to the U.S. If you have successfully installed
these I would appreciate hearing from you.
thanks in advance |

Try this company:
http://www.realcarriagedoors.com/
Check out the paragraph under "Automated Swing Out Garage Doors". They have an automatic opener that swings the doors outward. I don't know anything about this company except I came across it as I was searching on Google.
It's funny, but I was searching for precisely the same thing as you a while back, and like you I could only find openers in Great Britain. Then today I was just searching for barn doors in general and I came across this company.
If you end up buying from them, please come back and post how it worked out. I like the idea of having a swinging barn door but I would also like to have an operator for it. _________________ Mac Pro, 9 Gig RAM,

Rolando, thanks for the reply.
As I recall, the company does not sell the unit separately, but I will double check. There is a company I ran across that sells a low voltage activated floor bolt to secure the bottom of the doors that goes up and down with the garage door remote control. From what I've read, this is also a critical part of having a secure door. I will update on the subject as I get more info.
thanks again |

Hi birgco,
While they don't sell the ceiling mounted unit separately, they do sell the wall mounted unit (take a look at their FAQs). For me that actually works better because I have a 14 foot ceiling so that the operator would be hanging way down from the ceiling.
Please tell me about the floor bolt company because I will be pouring a new floor so that the installation would be straight forward and securing the bottom of the door would extend the life of the door, I think. _________________ Mac Pro, 9 Gig RAM,

Hi Rolando,
I appreciate the info on the Ca. company that sells the wall mounted units, I had missed that. Haven't yet located the remoted activated floor bolt company, but the British co., Amourelle, (which I think you already know about) sells a manual floor bolt that works with the opener.
The article about the importance of the floor bolt, discussed the case of someone damaging the doors when pulling on them if they are only latched at the top. I am several months away from the complete installation of the doors, but I will update as new info becomes available. thanks for your help. |

I've looking for these outswing openers, thank you for the great info!!! It looks like the real carriage door company you referred to is now selling the ceiling mounted swing out openers as well. I also noticed they also have videos of a sliding barn door opener, which would be great if I had a barn. Sigh... next project!
